ABOUT ME

Greg Wilson, 33, is the Deputy Director of REACH LA (since 2007) a youth based organization in Los Angeles, CA. that focuses on serving young African American/Latino MSM in Los Angeles County. Before working at REACH LA, he worked at In The Meantime Men’s Group for 3 years as a Health Educator/Program Coordinator. After working in the HIV/AIDS field for over 10 years, Greg’s passion is evident and he has been recognized nationally for his efforts toward leadership development, job preparation and working closely with under-served populations such as the House and Ballroom Community.

Through the Ovahness program, which includes the Ovahness Ball, Greg reaches hundreds of youth each year. Greg finds his role and position as an opportunity and platform to connect/direct youth with whom he’s built a strong relationship to the services and resources they need. Greg utilizes his expertise and experience to best serve the community he is passionate about by providing intense (Mental Health) counseling, mentorship, help in setting life-goals, encouraging HIV Testing and education, linkage into health care services and more. It’s no wonder the community is now becoming more aware and taking control of their status, this epidemic and their lives.

Greg’s efforts are expanded through his facilitation of life skill workshops, by addressing self-esteem concerns that are often overlooked, and helping develop strategies for other agencies to strengthen the leadership component of their programs. Greg’s heart is shown through his effective work and endless efforts. Greg’s hope is that this book will speak from the perspective of some of the youth that have felt for so long that they’ve had no voice, felt misunderstood, and who have overcome many struggles they weren’t expected to survive. This book will be used as a tool of empowerment and will add to his effort to connect with the community on a deeper level. Greg is surely a trailblazer who commits his life to the betterment of his people, his community and this world.
